Battle Cries

Battle Cries

Steel suited and combat booted
I called myself being ready for war,
Ignoring the sounds of his voice as he whispered
“This battle is not yours!”

I’d mastered every weapon known to man
From the words that cut from my mouth to the gun that I held in my hand,
And still he whispered
“This battle is not yours!”

I’d practiced all my kicks and punches
Flips, dips, and skilled stunt jumps,
And yet he still whispered
“This battle is not yours!”

I gathered my things to head to war
Sheild in my right hand and in the other my sword,
And finally he said aloud
“This battle is not yours!”

In my mind, I was a one woman army
Invincible and not a thing could harm me,
And he said again
“This battle is not yours!”

Thinking if I didn’t fight then who would?
Maybe I shouldn’t do it maybe I should?,
And he yelled this time
“This battle is not yours!”

I needed to smack the lips of liars
And to rip out the hearts of those who’d set my life on fire,
And he yelled again
“This battle is not yours!”

But I wanted the world to understand
That nothing can stand in the way of a woman and her plan,
And he pleaded
“This battle is not yours!”

I constantly ignored his pleas
And traveled to the land where I’d slay those joy stealing thieves,
And he reminded me
“This battle is not yours!”

Upon my arrival there was no life in sight
All of my enemies lay breathless as they’d been slain by night,
And I looked at him as he said to me,
“I told you, this battle was not yours!”

I was victorious before I even arrived
The fight was won and though I didn’t participate, I was just in time for the prize,
All along he knew I was wasting my time
For the battle was his, it wasn’t mine…
